REflect 2023

The event seeks to bring together young people from ethnically diverse and/or low socioeconomic backgrounds, exceptional role models from the engineering & tech world that look and sound like YOU, and STEM businesses wanting to do better with attraction and retention of diverse young talent.

National Day

People from Global Ethnic Majorities (GEM) are under-represented in the Engineering and Technology industry. We need more young people like YOU to make sure that we’re creating technologies that serve our communities. Businesses YOU have a responsibility to ensure that we’re recruiting diverse talent.

The Event

RS Grass Roots is the dedicated Education brand of RS Components. Our annual flagship event, REflect, founded in 2019, is back this year in collaboration with the Association For Black & Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE) and The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET).

The event aims to inspire young people from diverse ethnic backgrounds into STEM and enables companies to explore ways to be truly inclusive of their ethnically diverse colleagues.

We are also introducing a National Day to celebrate and recognise the achievements and contributions of #GEMinSTEM.

Our young attendees (16-25) will hear from inspirational role models to learn about their journeys into engineering and technology and the amazing projects they’re working on. There will be a variety of workshops and exhibitions on offer covering employability skills, career paths, and tech activities.

Our Business attendees will hear from a host of phenomenal speakers on best practice methods to attract, retain, include and empower diverse young talent. The theme is essentially practical steps that businesses can take to create a more ethnically diverse talent pipeline as well as inspiration on how to give back to these communities by highlighting black-owned businesses, and community projects they can support.
